1. San Luis Obispo

About a 31/2  hour drive from the Bay Area, beaches, hiking trails - Bishop’s Peak, Montana de Ora State Park, Morro Bay State Park, a few miles south of SLO is Pismo Beach where you can hang on the beach or head to Papi’s Grill for excellent fish tacos, restaurant patios and some crafts breweries are open.  The latter include Oak and Otter Brewing, Central Coast Brewing, and Liquid Gravity Brewing.

Nevada City, with its many downtown buildings on the National Register of Historic Places, is brimming with California history.  A must-see is the Empire Mine State Park- home to the oldest, deepest and richest gold mine in California. All trails systems, the vineyard and the estate and are open, and active recreation - biking, jogging, and hiking are encouraged. Once you’ve gotten your fill of history, head to one of the many swimming holes- a popular one is under the Old Highway 49 Bridge. As for eating, numerous places are open for patio dining, including the popular Three Forks Bakery and Brewing featuring locally sourced food, wood-fired pizza regional wines, and craft beer brewed in at their 7 barrel brewhouse. Another option is One 11 Kitchen & Bar, an organic, sustainable restaurant preparing kebabs, burgers, and homemade chocolate cake.
